Catching up!

That’s it, we all love the ocean. Living near the ocean, it’s something everyone can appreciate even if you don’t surf. Just taking in the simple things like the endless view and breathing in that fresh salty air can be reason enough why we love the ocean.

So apologies that I haven’t updated you guys in a while, as always, lots has been happening (ocean wise) since the BIG WAVE PROJECT. I have had plenty of ideas but one thing that never changes is what the ocean delivers.

Last year was another good season in the Southern Hemisphere with waves at the RIGHT (two trips) in WA and Shipsterns Bluff. Two trips to Tahiti in May & October and one historic trip to Fiji for 10 to 20 foot swell at Cloudbreak. It was like the big wave world tour as everyone that’s known in BIG WAVE SURFING turned up, including Kelly Slater.

In Europe my love affair continued with Portugal with my favourite biggest ridable wave NAZARE. Although Nazare has now thrown me a curve ball with the fact that shooting from the line up off a jetski is a lot more exciting and unique than standing on the beach/hill shooting from a tripod.

So now, with every swell, I get seriously anxious of my wellbeing trying to get the best shot of a surfer riding a monster. But I suppose where’s there’s risk there’s reward.

Last season a Nazare it was good but not the biggest season i’ve seen there. Still I got some 60 to 80 footers. So that’s still BIG!

As I was there for months on end, I chased a swell to IRELAND and shot the world famous slabbing left called MULLAGMORE and scored some amazing waves. Plus there was a trip to Hawaii, mainly documenting JAWS.

Back in Australia around March/April the season started slow. I missed a really good swell at Shipsterns with Laura Enever but Tahiti had some great 6 to 12 foot swells on two trips in May with some amazing rides by the locals.

Recently I chased a swell to WA to the RIGHT and didn’t get a lot, although my friends – twin brothers Mick & Dan Corbett had a incident they’d rather forget. Having lost their jet-ski when Mick went around to pick up Dan.

The ski stopped in the worse possible place and they both got collected. Result was the ski on the rocks (with it still there) and, as we were the only people in the line up, we almost ended up on the rocks as well. It was actually really heavy.
